Honome lies above central Beppu beside Kannawa, one of the city’s best-known hot-spring districts. Steam rises from vents and bathhouses throughout the neighbourhood, where visitors will find public baths, cafés, small restaurants and facilities preparing food with geothermal steam. Several of the Hells of Beppu are within walking distance. A nearby bus stop provides connections to Kannawa Bus Centre and Beppu Station, which is approximately six kilometres downhill. The hotel is about five minutes by car from Beppu Interchange and roughly ten minutes from Beppu International Tourist Port, making it practical for drivers and ferry passengers.

• Oniishibozu Jigoku – approximately 400 metres: Grey mud bubbles rise and burst in formations traditionally compared with the shaven heads of Buddhist monks.
• Umi Jigoku – approximately 600 metres: This landscaped geothermal site is centred on a striking cobalt-blue hot spring that is far too hot for bathing.
• Kamado Jigoku – approximately 800 metres: Several differently coloured pools, steam demonstrations and footbath areas make this one of Kannawa’s varied geothermal sites.
• Oniyama Jigoku – approximately 900 metres: The hot spring is known for using geothermal warmth to support its crocodile enclosures.
• Kannawa Steam Bath – approximately 1.2 kilometres: This historic bathing facility uses hot-spring steam and medicinal plants rather than an ordinary water bath.
• Yukemuri Observatory – approximately 3 kilometres: The viewpoint overlooks Kannawa’s rising steam, surrounding hills and Mount Tsurumi, with particularly atmospheric evening views.
• Beppu Ropeway – approximately 6 kilometres: The cable car climbs Mount Tsurumi for walking routes and wide views across Beppu Bay and the surrounding mountains.

• Start the Hells of Beppu circuit early, before coach groups and day visitors make the main geothermal sites busier.
• Reserve the hotel’s private family baths in advance because there are only three and an additional fee applies.
• Ask the hotel about its complimentary Beppu Station collection service, which requires reservation by the previous day.
• Use local buses or a taxi for central Beppu, as the route between Kannawa and the station is steep and lengthy on foot.
• Review public-bath rules before entering an onsen, and confirm current tattoo policies directly with the hotel when relevant.

March to May and October to November generally bring mild conditions for walking around Kannawa and visiting outdoor geothermal sites. Summer is hot, humid and occasionally wet, while winter is cooler and well suited to onsen bathing. Spring blossom periods, autumn foliage weekends and Japanese public holidays can increase demand. Mountain conditions around Mount Tsurumi may be colder than central Beppu throughout the year.
